01Is this for you

When it makes sense to hire a Next.js team

Next.js is a strong tool and an unnecessary one for plenty of small sites. It usually earns its place when you recognise at least two of these.

  • Search traffic matters and your current React app shows Google thin or empty pages.
  • The site mixes content with real features, such as configurators, accounts, dashboards or booking flows.
  • Content, products or stock come from a CMS, a commerce backend or an ERP that has to stay the source of truth.
  • You publish in several languages and want the switcher, hreflang and URLs handled in one consistent way.
  • Your frontend is slow, and replacing it is more realistic than replacing the platform behind it.

02What you get

What Next.js projects look like in practice

These are the shapes of work in our portfolio, from a bilingual manufacturer site to a two-sided marketplace.

Corporate and multilingual sites

A custom design with motion and CMS-managed content, like the Biosintex site, or a page per service for search, like Doctor PC.

Catalogues and storefronts

Faceted navigation, product structured data and tools such as a toner finder or a PC configurator on a headless commerce backend.

Applications and SaaS

Authenticated workflows, payments and in-browser 3D, as on the Smatch marketplace and the Smatch Cases clinical platform.

Rescue of a client-side React app

Moving an existing app to server rendering in stages, so that pages gain real HTML without stopping the product.

03Which option

Next.js, WordPress or a plain React app: how to decide

The framework is rarely the goal. The useful question is who edits the content, how much of the site is interactive, and how much you want to run afterwards.

OptionBest whenTrade-off
Next.js with a headless CMSYou want custom design and features, strong indexing and editors working in their own admin. Two systems to host and keep updated, and a higher initial build effort than a theme.
Next.js over your current platformMagento, WordPress or an ERP works well and only the presentation layer holds you back. The old backend remains, along with its upgrades, and the API layer between them must be maintained.
WordPressA small team assembles a brochure site or blog and wants to do most of it without developers.Complex interactive features get harder, and speed depends on plugin discipline.
React single-page appEverything sits behind a login, or it is a small static site with no CMS and no need for a server runtime.Public content pages are harder to index well, and metadata needs extra work.

Hosting is the second decision. Vercel is convenient, while a Docker image on your own EU servers gives predictable costs and control of data location, which is how this site runs.

04Cost

What decides the cost of a Next.js project

The number of pages tells us little, since one template can serve thousands of them. Effort follows what those templates have to do.

FactorWhy it matters
Design ambitionBespoke components, page transitions and scroll-driven scenes take far longer than a clean system of reusable sections.
Data sourcesEvery CMS, commerce backend or ERP API needs typed integration, caching rules and a plan for when it is unavailable.
Interactive featuresConfigurators, accounts, payments and dashboards are application work, closer to custom software than to a website.
Languages and SEO scopeTranslated slugs, hreflang, per-locale sitemaps and structured data have to be designed in from the first route.
MigrationReplacing a live site means a URL map, redirects and a way to phase the change without losing rankings.
Hosting and operationsDeployment pipeline, CDN, monitoring and who answers when something fails belong in the estimate from the start.

You get a written scope after discovery, listing templates, integrations and performance targets. Maintenance after launch is agreed separately, and it can stay with the same team or be handed to yours.

05How to start

How a Next.js project gets under way

01day one

Describe the goal

What the site or application has to achieve, who edits the content and which systems feed it.

02discovery

Architecture and content model

Which pages are static, which render per request, how caching and revalidation work and where each piece of data lives.

03first sprints

Design system

Components built from the design, with performance budgets agreed at this point and checked on each deployment.

04two-week sprints

Slices on staging

Pages and features delivered in small parts that your team reviews on a staging address, followed by launch and continued improvements.

What to include in your request

You do not need to decide the architecture. Tell us what the product has to do and we can work from there.

  • The current site or app, and what you think is wrong with it.
  • Who will edit content, and whether you already have a CMS in mind.
  • The APIs and systems involved, with documentation if you have it.
  • Languages, markets and how much search traffic matters.
  • Expected traffic and any peaks, plus where the data must be hosted.

07Questions

Questions buyers ask about Next.js development

How much does a Next.js website cost?

We quote it after scoping, since the cost follows design ambition, data sources and interactive features rather than the page count. A description of the goal, who edits the content and the systems involved is enough for a first conversation, and the estimate follows from the written scope.

How long does a Next.js project take?

The length depends on the number of distinct templates, integrations and features, so we set it in the scope rather than guess. Work is delivered in two-week sprints on staging, which means you see pages early, and a phased migration lets part of the new site go live before the rest.

Is Next.js better than WordPress for a company website?

Only if you need custom features, a bespoke design or several data sources behind the site. For a small brochure site that a non-technical team wants to assemble themselves, WordPress is what we usually recommend, and it is also what we would build for you in that case.

Will we lose Google rankings if we move to Next.js?

Not if URLs, redirects, metadata and structured data are mapped before the switch. Rankings usually drop when URLs change without redirects or content goes missing, so the migration plan covers every indexed page, and we keep the same addresses wherever that is possible.

Can our marketing team edit a Next.js site without a developer?

Yes, when it is connected to a headless CMS, which is how Biosintex and Doctor PC manage their sites. Editors work in an admin panel with drafts and reusable sections, and pages update on publish without anyone running a deployment.

Can you fix a slow React or Next.js app built by someone else?

Yes, starting with a look at what is rendered on the server, what JavaScript is shipped and what field data says about real visitors. The usual remedies are server rendering by default, less client code and real caching, and they can be applied route by route.
