Smatch Cases — clinical case collaboration with a live 3D + CT workspace
A secure platform where dentists and dental technicians solve complex cases together: upload scans, photos and CBCT, open them in a layered 3D + CT viewer in the browser, and collect structured second opinions from verified specialists.
The challenge
Complex cases were being discussed in chat groups with blurry photos and lost voice notes. The platform had to take raw clinical files — intraoral scans, CBCT volumes, photographs — validate them, assemble them into one shared scene a colleague can open in a browser without software, and keep everything private: clinical cases must never be public or indexable, and every member must be a verified professional.
What we built
A Next.js application with a four-step flow — post a case, files become a shared 3D + CT scene, verified specialists discuss and annotate, the author marks what helped. The viewer renders STL/PLY meshes and CBCT volumes together with layer controls, built on Three.js and WebGL. Credential checks gate membership, cases live behind authentication, and the public site carries only the product story. Deployed as a single container on our own infrastructure.
The outcome
Launched in free beta for dental professionals: one structured workflow instead of scattered messages, with expertise that stays visible and attributable to the specialist who gave it.
