Healthcare software development for hospitals, clinics and medical suppliers
In shortWeDevelop is a Romanian software company whose healthcare work includes a public hospital's website, a dental clinic's site with booking, medical distributors' online stores and a clinical collaboration platform, alongside its own document management and appointment systems. It fits healthcare organisations that need one technical partner for products, integrations and custom builds, rather than a new clinical record system.

01Is this for you
The healthcare organisations we can help
Healthcare is a broad word, and it matters which part of it you are in. These are the situations our work actually covers.
- A hospital with documents, approvals and an archive that have outgrown paper and shared folders.
- A public institution that must publish regulations, budgets and declarations in a form patients and auditors can find.
- A clinic that needs booking, patient files and invoicing together, or a website that brings in appointments.
- A medical distributor whose online store has to reflect real stock, price lists and institutional customers.
- A company building a clinical product, where sensitive files must stay private and access has to be limited to verified people.

What we have actually done in this sector
Each of these is a real project, described for what it is. Two of them we maintain but did not build.
Public hospital website
Sovata-Niraj Hospital: management, regulations, departments, patient information, a document library by year and forms. This is a website that hospital staff maintain, not a clinical system.
Clinic site with booking
DentElite: treatments, team, a price list, courses for other dentists, and call, WhatsApp and online-booking actions throughout the site.
Medical distributor store
Medisens: a Magento 2 store with customer groups for institutional buyers, and integrations we built for stock, price lists and order export.
Medical manufacturer site
Biosintex: a custom bilingual site for a surgical suture manufacturer, with a catalogue by suture type, certifications and distributors.
Clinical collaboration platform
Smatch Cases: private cases, credential checks and a browser viewer for 3D scans and CBCT. It launched in free beta for dental professionals.
Medical stores we maintain
Montigen and Optimum Medical: we did not build these Magento 2.4 stores. We keep them patched, upgraded and working for the teams that run them.
03Which option
Specialist vendor, our products or a custom build
Most healthcare software decisions come down to the routes below. In practice you often end up combining two of them.
| Route | Fits when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Specialist clinical vendor | You need the medical record itself: wards, orders, prescriptions and clinical reporting. | Deep in clinical work, usually less flexible around documents, back office and anything unusual. |
| Our document or appointment system | The gap is around the clinical record: registry, archive, approvals, booking, staff and stock. | A configured product means working within its structure, and a link to your clinical system has to be scoped. |
| Custom software | The workflow is your own product or advantage, like a platform shared between clinicians. | Slower and costlier to start than a product, and you take on the long-term ownership. |
| Integration only | The systems you own are fine, but they do not talk to each other, so staff retype data between them. | It depends on what each vendor exposes, and every link needs monitoring afterwards. |
We do not list a hospital information system or an electronic health record among our products. If that is what you need, buy it from a specialist and talk to us about the documents, integrations and portals around it.
04Cost
What makes healthcare software cost more or less
Healthcare projects cost what software projects cost, plus the items below. We scope these before quoting a build.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Patient data | If real health data is involved, access control, logging, data agreements and test environments all need more care. |
| Other systems | Connecting to a clinical system, ERP or laboratory depends on what the other vendor allows and how well it is documented. |
| User roles | A portal for one kind of user is simple. Roles per ward, function and institution multiply the testing. |
| File types | Documents are straightforward, while large 3D scans and CBCT volumes need their own processing and viewer. |
| Hosting constraints | An on-premise requirement or a rule against leaving your infrastructure changes how the team works and deploys. |
| Regulatory status | If the software may count as a medical device, that shapes documentation and process well before launch. |
Our own products are priced from the configuration you select. Custom work starts with a paid, fixed-price discovery that produces a specification, a risk list and a costed backlog, and that output is yours whether or not you continue with us.
05How to start
How a healthcare project begins
Send a short description
Tell us who uses it, whether patient data is involved and which systems it touches. Someone technical replies.
Call about the problem
Thirty minutes on the actual problem, including whether a product of ours, someone else's product or custom work fits.
Discovery
For a product, this maps your flows. For custom work, it produces the written specification, architecture and risk list.
Build or configure
Two-week sprints or staged configuration on a staging environment, followed by a support agreement or a clean handover.
06For a useful reply
What to tell us first
You do not need a specification, and please do not send any patient data. These facts are enough to begin.
- Who will use the system: patients, doctors, administrative staff, partner institutions.
- Whether it stores or displays health data, and whether it could influence clinical decisions.
- The systems already in place, including the names of any clinical software.
- Where the data must live, and who at your organisation decides that.
- Any fixed date, such as an accreditation visit or a funding milestone.
07Questions
What healthcare buyers ask us
How much does custom healthcare software cost?
It depends on patient data, integrations, user roles and regulatory status, so we quote after a paid discovery rather than from a brief. That first phase is fixed in price, and it gives you a costed backlog you can use with any supplier.
How long does it take to build healthcare software?
There is no single figure, because a website and a clinical platform are not comparable. Our configured document system usually takes two to four months in a hospital, while custom work gets a timeline after discovery, once integrations and data requirements are understood.
Have you worked with hospitals before?
Yes, we built the public website of Sovata-Niraj Hospital, including its transparency documents and forms. That project is a website rather than a clinical system, and our portfolio does not list a hospital information system, so ask us about the specifics of your case.
How do you handle patient data during development?
We sign a data processing agreement, work in your environments under your access control, and can limit the work to your infrastructure where data is sensitive. Health data is a special category under GDPR, and our ISO 27001 system covers access, secrets and incident handling.
Does our software count as a medical device?
It may, because EU medical device rules can cover software intended for diagnosis or treatment, so check this before architecture is settled. Regulatory classification is not one of our listed services, and we would ask you to involve a specialist while we handle the engineering.
Should we buy a product or build our own?
Buy when a product covers your process and the gap is small, since a custom build means long-term ownership of everything. Build when the workflow is the thing that sets you apart. We sell products and build software, so we can say which one applies without a stake in only one.
Can you take over an existing medical store or website?
Yes, and we already maintain stores such as Montigen and Optimum Medical that other people built. We start with a paid audit so both sides know what is being inherited, then work on patches, upgrades and compatibility before anything new is added.
