Hire dedicated developers in Romania: which model fits and what decides the cost
In shortWeDevelop is a Romanian software company that provides dedicated development teams and individual senior engineers in Magento, Next.js, React, Node.js, DevOps and QA, on monthly contracts with 30 days' notice. It suits product companies and agencies that need capacity within weeks rather than quarters, already know what they are building, and want to interview the people who will do the work.

01Is this for you
When hiring through a partner makes sense
External engineers solve a capacity problem and little else. It tends to work when the following are true.
- Your roadmap is clear, but recruitment cannot keep pace with it.
- Someone on your side can make product decisions and answer questions the same day.
- You need a specific stack now: Magento, Next.js and React, Node.js, DevOps or test automation.
- You are an agency that has won work you cannot staff, and you need it delivered under your name.
- The need may shrink again, and you would rather give 30 days' notice than manage a redundancy.
02What you get
What every engagement has in common
The commercial shape varies by model. These terms stay the same whichever you choose.
Named people
You receive CVs and code samples for specific engineers and interview them yourself. Nobody is substituted after signature.
Your way of working
Your Jira, your repository, your definition of done. The engineers join your ceremonies rather than importing an agency method.
IP assigned to you
All intellectual property is assigned to you from the first commit, with an NDA and a mutual non-solicitation clause.
A trial month
The first month runs as a mutual trial. If the fit is wrong, we replace the engineer at our cost.
Reporting you can use
A monthly report per engineer and task for individuals, and sprint outcomes rather than hours for dedicated teams.
A proper exit
Thirty days' notice, then architecture notes, environment setup, credentials transfer and a walkthrough session.
03Which option
Dedicated team, staff augmentation or a fixed-scope project
The question to ask is who will manage the work and who answers for the result. The right model follows from that.
| Model | Fits when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Staff augmentation | You have leads and a working process, and you are short of specific skills. One or more engineers report into your team, full-time or part-time. | You carry the management and the responsibility for delivery. Without a strong lead on your side, it disappoints. |
| Dedicated team | You want a whole product area owned: a tech lead, engineers and QA, with sprint reports and demos. Teams run from three to ten engineers. | Higher commitment than one person, and it needs a clear scope and a product decision maker on your side. |
| Fixed-scope project | You need a defined system delivered, not a team to run. Paid discovery produces a specification, then a fixed price and milestones. | Less flexible once under way, because scope changes are priced as they arise. |
| Hiring in-house | The work is permanent and central to your company, and you can wait for the right person. | It takes longest to start and costs the most to reverse, but the knowledge stays in the building. |
We are a small senior team, so if you need dozens of engineers across many technologies, a large outsourcing vendor is the better fit. We also turn down adding developers to a project with no clear direction: more people make that worse, and a discovery phase or one strong internal hire is the better first step.
04Cost
What decides the monthly cost
We quote per role after a short scoping call, since rates depend on seniority and stack. There is no recruitment fee and no buy-out clause.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Seniority | A technical lead or solution architect is priced differently from an engineer working within an existing structure. |
| Stack | Adobe Commerce, DevOps and platform engineering, and test automation are different markets for skills. |
| Allocation | Full-time or part-time allocation changes the monthly figure directly and also the speed of delivery. |
| Team shape | A dedicated team includes a tech lead and QA, not only developers, and that is what makes it able to own a scope. |
| The model | Augmentation and teams are invoiced monthly, while fixed-scope work is invoiced by milestone after paid discovery. |
To compare fairly with a local hire, count salary, employer contributions, recruitment fees, equipment and management time, not only the headline salary. For most Western European clients that comparison comes out meaningfully in favour of a senior Romanian engineer. Your own figures will show whether that holds for your market.
05How to start
From first call to first sprint
Scoping call
Thirty minutes on what you are building, the stack, the seniority you need and how your team works.
Profiles and interviews
CVs and code samples for the people available, then interviews with them directly. You make the choice.
Contract and access
Framework agreement, NDA and IP assignment, then access to your repository, tools and sprint ceremonies.
First sprint
The engineer joins your current sprint and the mutual trial month begins. Common stacks are often faster than this.
06For concrete profiles
What to put in your first message
A short brief is enough for us to come back with real profiles, rates and a start date.
- The stack and the part of the product the engineer or team would work on.
- The seniority you want, and how many people, full-time or part-time.
- Who would lead them on your side, and how your sprints and code review run.
- Your working hours and any overlap you consider non-negotiable.
- Any restriction on data access, or a requirement to work only in your infrastructure.
07Questions
What buyers ask before hiring developers in Romania
How much does it cost to hire a developer from Romania?
The monthly cost depends on seniority, stack and allocation, and we quote per role after a short scoping call rather than publishing a rate card. There is no recruitment fee or buy-out, so what you compare is the monthly figure against the full cost of your alternative.
How quickly can a dedicated developer start?
Typically within two weeks of the first call, and sometimes sooner for common stacks such as Magento or Next.js. Profiles arrive within days, and most of the remaining time goes on your interviews and signing the framework agreement.
How long do we have to commit for?
There is no minimum beyond the 30-day notice period, because contracts roll monthly. Dedicated teams can scale up or down each quarter, while very short needs are often better handled as a small fixed-scope piece of work.
What if the developer turns out to be the wrong person?
We replace them at our cost, and the first month is treated as a trial on both sides. The person you interview is the person who starts, so problems of this kind tend to be about fit rather than a surprise on who turned up.
Can we hire the engineer directly later on?
Not by default, since the framework agreement contains a non-solicitation clause that binds both sides. If your plans include building an internal team, say so at the start and we will discuss knowledge transfer and handover from the beginning.
Who owns the code the team writes?
You own it from the first commit, through a full IP assignment in the contract, and the engineers sign NDAs. The work happens in your repositories under your access control, so nothing has to be handed back at the end.
