IT audit company in Romania: what gets checked and how to start
In shortWeDevelop is a Romanian software company that runs independent IT audits covering infrastructure, applications, security posture, backups, access and costs, delivered as a written report with severities, owners and estimated effort. It suits companies that inherited their systems, depend on one person, or cannot say with confidence what they run and what they pay for it.

01Is this for you
When an IT audit is the right first step
An audit is useful when you need the whole picture before spending money. If you already know what is broken and who will fix it, go straight to the fix.
- You inherited systems from a former supplier or employee, and nobody has a complete list.
- Only one person can deploy, or understands the integration everything else relies on.
- IT costs keep rising and you cannot say which subscriptions and licences are still needed.
- Backups report success, but nobody has seen one restored into a working system.
- A rebuild, migration, new supplier or ISO 27001 project is coming and you want facts before deciding.
02What you get
What you hold at the end of the audit
The output is a set of documents you can act on, with or without us.
A complete inventory
Servers, cloud accounts, domains, certificates, licences, SaaS subscriptions and integrations, each with a named owner.
A security and access picture
Posture checked against OWASP and CIS benchmarks, plus orphaned accounts and shared credentials across your systems.
A proven restore
A restore performed from a real backup, showing whether recovery works and how much time it needs.
Cost findings
Duplicate subscriptions, oversized instances and licence tiers you no longer need, with the waste identified line by line.
A risk register
Findings with likelihood, impact, owner and remediation effort, each citing the evidence behind it so another supplier can verify it.
A phased roadmap
Remediation prioritised over three to twelve months, with an executive summary for people who will not read the technical detail.
03Which option
Vulnerability scan, penetration test, IT audit or gap analysis
These four are often sold under one name, yet they answer different questions. Choosing the wrong one means paying for an answer you did not need.
| Option | Question it answers | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| Automated vulnerability scan | Which known weaknesses can a tool see on these hosts and dependencies? | Business logic, access habits, backups and cost. Results also need someone to separate real issues from noise. |
| Penetration test | Can this defined target be broken into, and how far would an attacker get? | Everything outside the target, including process, recovery, ownership and spending. |
| IT audit | What do we run, what does it cost, what is exposed and what happens if a person or system disappears? | It is not an attack simulation, and it does not replace a formal test where one is required. |
| ISO 27001 or NIS2 gap analysis | How far are we from a named standard or set of obligations? | Anything the standard does not cover. It is neither a certificate nor a legal opinion. |
If you are unsure what you have, start with the audit, because it shows whether a penetration test is needed and what it should cover. We are not a certified penetration testing house, so when a contract or certification calls for a formal test we help you scope it with an accredited third party.
04Cost
What decides the cost of an IT audit
The audit is fixed-price, quoted after a short scoping call. The price follows how many distinct systems are in scope far more than how large they are.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Distinct systems in scope | Each ERP, shop, cloud account or internal application adds its own configuration, people and documents to review. |
| Fragmentation | Several suppliers and missing documentation mean more interviews and more reconstruction of how things really work. |
| Depth of code review | Checking versions and support status is one level of work, whereas reading an inherited codebase is another. |
| Recovery testing | A real restore needs a scratch environment, and complex applications take longer to prove than a single database. |
| Standards mapping | An ISO 27001 or NIS2 gap analysis adds a control-by-control comparison on top of the findings. |
A narrower scope that you will act on is better value than a broad one that produces a document nobody reads. We say so during the scoping call.
05How to start
From first email to the walkthrough
Tell us why now
What prompted the audit, which systems you know about and what worries you most.
Scoping call
We agree what is in scope, sign an NDA and quote a fixed price for that scope. Anything larger or more fragmented than usual is flagged here.
Read-only review
Configuration review, scanning, log sampling, invoices, interviews and a tested restore. Anything actively exploitable is reported straight away.
Walkthrough and decision
Your team goes through each finding and can challenge it. You then decide what to fix and who should do it.

What to include in your request
A rough list is enough for scoping. Finding out what is missing from it is part of the audit.
- The reason for the audit, and any deadline attached to it.
- The systems you know about, and the suppliers who run them.
- Who can provide read-only access to servers, cloud consoles and admin panels.
- Whether contracts and invoices for IT services can be shared.
- Known incidents and current worries, even small ones.
07Questions
Questions buyers ask about IT audits
How much does an IT audit cost?
An IT audit from us is fixed-price, and the figure comes after a short scoping call rather than from a price list. It depends mostly on the number of distinct systems in scope, how fragmented they are and whether you want code review or a standards gap analysis included.
How long does an IT audit take?
Most audits take two to four weeks, and four is typical for a mid-sized estate. Larger or more fragmented environments run longer, which we tell you before starting. The usual delay is getting access and interview time, so having a contact per system helps the most.
Will an audit disrupt our systems or our staff?
It should not affect your systems, because the work is read-only, using an account you can revoke, and the restore test runs in a separate scratch environment. Your staff spend time in interviews, since the people who operate each system know things no tool can find.
Can another supplier fix what the audit finds?
Yes, and the report is written with that in mind, with each finding specific enough for your own team or another company to act on and verify. We will quote for the work if asked, but buying the follow-up from us is never a condition of the audit.
What is the difference between an IT audit and a security audit?
A security audit looks at how exposed you are, while an IT audit also covers cost, licences, recovery, supplier dependency, documentation and how software is delivered. If security is your only concern, the audit can be scoped down to it, and that version is shorter.
Can an IT audit prepare us for ISO 27001 or NIS2?
Yes, a gap analysis against ISO 27001 or NIS2 can be added when that is the goal, showing which controls are missing and what closing them involves. It does not certify you or give a legal opinion: certification comes from an accredited body, and the legal reading stays with your adviser.
Is this the right audit if a regulator or a bank asked for one?
Check the wording of the requirement first, because some demand a report from a specifically accredited auditor, which a general IT audit does not automatically satisfy. Send us the text before we scope, and we will tell you whether our report can serve that purpose.
