Android app developers in Romania

In shortWeDevelop is a Romanian software company whose developers build and take over native Android apps in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, for Google Play or private distribution on company devices. It suits warehouse and field tools, customer apps for Android-heavy markets, and apps that lean on background work or hardware, where a shared codebase would hold the product back.

01Is this for you

When you specifically need Android developers

If the same simple app is going to both stores, you may want a cross-platform team instead. A dedicated Android focus pays off in situations like these.

  • Staff use rugged phones, tablets or scanners in a warehouse, in a shop or in the field.
  • Your customers are mostly on Android, including older mid-range phones with limited memory.
  • The app relies on background sync, Bluetooth, NFC or camera pipelines that have to keep working reliably.
  • You have an Android app that is falling behind the target API requirement or showing a poor crash rate.
  • The app is for company devices only, and it should never appear in a public store.

02What you get

What a dedicated Android team takes care of

Android work is shaped by the variety of devices and by the rules of Google Play, so this is where most of the attention goes.

A modern Kotlin codebase

Compose UI, clear layers, automated tests and offline storage where the task calls for it, with older Java or XML migrated where it makes sense.

Testing on your device range

Your analytics or your purchase list decides which phones, OS versions and manufacturers are tested, including the cheap ones.

A route to the devices

Play Console setup with testing tracks and staged rollout, or private distribution on managed devices.

Audit of an existing app

Target API, dependencies, crash and ANR rates, build reproducibility and policy standing, written up as a list of risks.

03Which option

Google Play, private MDM or direct install

On Android the way an app reaches a phone is a real decision, with consequences for security, updates and cost. It is worth settling before the design starts.

RouteBest whenTrade-off
Public on Google PlayCustomers install the app themselves, and you want staged rollouts and a store listing.Play policies, the Data safety declaration and yearly target API deadlines all apply to you.
Private via managed Google Play or MDMThe app is for staff on company-owned phones, tablets or rugged devices that you enrol centrally. You need an MDM and enrolled devices, and the rollout has to be organised with your IT team.
Direct APK installA small fleet or dedicated kiosks have no access to a store. You must build your own update mechanism and give up the rollout controls and crash data from Play.
Google Play plus other storesYour audience includes Huawei phones without Google services.Push, maps and billing may need a second implementation, and each store has its own review.

The other big decision is Kotlin or shared code. An ordinary interface heading to both stores usually favours cross-platform, while low-end performance, heavy background work and hardware access favour Kotlin.

04Cost

What decides the cost of an Android app

We do not publish a price per app, because similar screens can hide very different work underneath. On Android these factors tend to change the estimate most.

FactorWhy it matters
Range of devicesEach additional OS version, screen size and manufacturer enlarges the test matrix, so your real device list matters.
Background and offline workSync that must survive manufacturer battery managers and overnight idle takes careful design and real-device checks.
HardwareBarcode scanners, NFC, Bluetooth peripherals and camera pipelines depend on specific models and have to be tested on them.
Security requirementsEncrypted local storage, certificate pinning and compliance for sensitive data add both work and review.
Play Billing and policiesSubscriptions and in-app purchases bring their own flows, tests and policy constraints.
Existing codeA Java or XML app several target API levels behind may need storage or permission rewrites before any feature work.

Android also has a yearly cost that is easy to forget, because Google raises the required target API level regularly. We include that upgrade work in the maintenance plan rather than treating it as a surprise.

05How to start

How an Android project starts

01day one

List the devices

The phones in your analytics, or the hardware you plan to buy, along with how often users will be offline.

02before the build

Audit or definition

For an existing app, a written risk list. For a new one, journeys, integrations and the route to the device.

03two-week sprints

Build on real hardware

Compose screens and offline logic in two-week sprints, installed through an internal track on the phones that matter.

04before full release

Gradual release

A closed group of real users first, then a staged rollout watched for crashes and ANRs, or an MDM rollout to your fleet.

What to include in your request

The device list and the working conditions are what separate one Android project from another, so please start with those.

  • The devices in use, or the ones you plan to buy.
  • Connectivity: always online, sometimes offline or often offline.
  • Whether the app is public or only for your own staff.
  • Integrations, along with how sensitive the data is.
  • For an existing app: access to the Play Console and the repository, if possible.

07Questions

Questions buyers ask about Android developers

How much does an Android app cost?

It is quoted after scoping, since the price depends on the device range, offline and background work, hardware and any existing code. An app for one known model of scanner and a public app for many phone types are very different budgets, even with identical screens.

How long does it take to build and publish an Android app?

The build length follows the scope, and publishing itself is comparatively quick. A Google Play update is usually reviewed within hours to a few days, a first submission can take longer, and a closed test plus a staged rollout add days that are well worth spending.

Should we build for Android first and add iOS later?

Often yes, if your users or staff are mostly on Android or the app runs on company hardware. Release on Android is also quicker and easier to reverse, so it is a practical place to prove an idea, though you should decide early whether the code will later be shared.

Can an Android app work offline on warehouse scanners?

Yes, and this is one of the strongest cases for native Android. Scans are stored locally and queued, and sync runs when a connection returns, with rules for conflicts. We test on the actual device models, because rugged hardware and its scanning software vary by manufacturer.

What happens if our app misses the Google Play target API deadline?

Google eventually restricts it, starting with new users no longer finding or installing it. The fix may be small or may force storage and permission changes, so we begin with an audit of the current state, and then plan the upgrade before any new features.

Can we distribute an Android app without Google Play?

Yes, through managed Google Play and an MDM for company devices, or through direct installation on dedicated hardware. Private distribution suits staff apps well, but with direct installation you need your own update mechanism, so it is best kept for small and controlled fleets.
